In this issue of Biotech Monthly, we examine Inovio Biomedical. The company uses DNA electroporation as an alternative method to insert DNA into cells. This can be used therapeutically or as a manufacturing method. Electroporation involves a few seconds of post-injection electrical pulses. This increases the number of vaccine antigens that cross the cell membrane.

The company has promising data involving diseases that evade the immune system. All the current clinical candidates are in Phase I trials.. This biotech is days away from a binary event that could trigger significant partnership dollars as well as significant investor interest. Their approach of creating drugs that are superior to currently approved medicines - not just comparable -- fits well with current regulatory and reimbursement themes.

We also update our coverage of the following companies in our coverage universe:

Dendreon (DNDN)
Oncolytics Biotech (ONCY)
Repros Therapeutics (RPRX)
Seattle Genetics (SGEN)
ZymoGenetics (ZGEN)
